On this blizzard day, I’ve reconnected with my muse and begun writing a short story about the beautiful, mind-altering skyline of Madrid. Some of my fondest daydreams simply consist of remembering the warmth and light and spacious blue sky of the city. It’s a feast for the visually-inclined. And it invites wonderful photography, unblemished by humidity or haze or pollution. To my American eyes, the Madrid skyline appears so pre-modern.
Right now, I’m analyzing a photo I took of the Telefonica building, which is built to the Art Deco architectural style. I can’t think Art Deco without thinking about the mesmerizing skylines and machine designs of Batman: The Animated Series.
I should have the story complete and ready to publish sometime in February!
The photo above is the morning view from my hotel room during a recent Madrid trip.
