Of late, I’ve had more time to work on my film music book manuscript. I’m now on chapter 33, which explores the wonders of Joe Hisaishi‘s score for Porco Rosso (1992). I’m a late-blooming fan of Studio Ghibli, but I’m here now, admiring it.
I could gaze in awe at the film’s Mediterranean landscapes forever. Visually and sonically, the film is like a warm, inviting Italian meal. Spaghetti and meatballs, gnocchi, or a margherita pizza. With a full-bodied red wine.
The featured picture for this entry depicts the waters off Martha’s Vineyard, but I edited the colors and softness to evoke the picturesque, daydream quality of Porco Rosso’s Mediterranean.
